KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Department of Information has taken the initiative to raise public awareness on the importance of obeying the Movement Control Order (MCO) while highlighting the dangers of the Covid-19 pandemic through its ‘Info on Wheels’ (IOW) programme.
According to a spokesperson of the department, the programme will cover Kota Kinabalu and Sepanggar areas which comprise the state constituencies of Likas, Api-Api, Luyang, Karambunai and Inanam.
“Today, we will be going around Foh Sang, Lido, Lintas, Damai, and maybe Likas to provide information on the MCO while ensuring that the public obeys the order.
“Enforcement from the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) will also come along to close premises if necessary,” he said during the programme in Lintas here, Friday.
The IOW programme will be conducted from time to time within the 14-day period, especially in residential areas and villages.
The department urged all KK residents to obey the order to reduce the possibility of spreading the virus.
Foh Sang resident Paul Chok found the IOW to be helpful as it managed to catch the attention of the public.
“This programme is really helpful for the public. Everyone will stop whatever they are doing to listen to what is being delivered by the programme,” said the 71-year-old drugstore operator.
He also remarked that there were less people at the frequently visited area, and most would only come to buy their necessities before going straight home.
On a similar note, a 26-year-old FoodPanda rider said that the programme is crucial for people to better understand the reason for the order.
Alizul Ali Ahmad said he was glad that the risk of being exposed to the deadly virus is lower now that people are told to stay at home.
“As food delivery riders, we can only operate from 8am to 8pm. Anyhow, we are receiving less food orders compared to the usual since many are taking precautionary measures. Some even asked us to leave their food order at the door,” he shared.
Alizul also believed that Sabahans are wise and obeying the order as he noticed a major drop in people’s movement.
