He said unity was a precious blessing and an important asset to the country, which needed to be nurtured and preserved so that Malaysia’s independence continues to be maintained.
“As usual, fly the Jalur Gemilang which will be seen everywhere before the National Month. I hope that the display of love for the country shown through the waving of the Jalur Gemilang, whether by individuals or organsations will be more lively this year.
“As citizens, we should feel lucky to be part of the sovereign and independent Malaysian people.
“Indeed, the blessing of independence should be appreciated, where we can live comfortably, harmoniously and prosperously and tolerate establishing relations between races,” he said.
The speech was read by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister.
Also present were Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
He added that when the people fly the Jalur Gemilang, it could indirectly foster unity among the people regardless of their backgrounds.
“History has proven that the greatness of an empire is not only based on wise leadership but the spirit of identity and consensus of the people.
“Show our pride in the country by flying the symbol of this country’s greatness. Also, show our love for the country by practising good values in everyday life,” he said.
On the theme of this year’s National Month, namely ‘Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan’ (Unity Determination Fulfilling Hope), Anwar said it was in line with Malaysia’s aspirations as a nation that has a high spirit of unity, peace and prosperity.
“The theme also coincides with the concept of Malaysia Madani in ensuring that the people experience all forms of progress based on the sustainability of the nation’s culture, creativity, confidence, well-being, respect and courtesy and supported by strong unity.
“Praise to Allah, this year, we celebrate the 66th National Day, marking a fairly mature age, the result of the strength of the people’s unity bond from various races that have been experienced for a long time,” he said.
In conjunction with this national month, Anwar said various programmes would be held such as the launch of National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang, followed by National Day celebration on Aug 31 in Putrajaya and Malaysia Day on Sept 16 in Sarawak.
