Saifuddin said, earlier he has requested that members of the media should be included in the frontliners group but Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin and Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba said they have tried but decided that media could not be in the same batch as frontliners.
The minister added, the media is considered as frontliners as they go out to meet members of the public. In the case of RTM, 12 staff in Sabah and six in Kuala Lumpur have been detected with positive COVID-19 in the course of performing their duties.
“I have told the Special Committee on COVID-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV) on my intention to be vaccinated together with the media but no date has been fixed yet.
“By right I should have been vaccinated now but I have requested to do it with the media group. The vaccination will be done in batches as there are quite a number of newsmen around,” Saifuddin said at a press conference after meeting community leaders in the Jelajah Malaysia Prihatin Programme held at the Sentul Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) here today.
Saifuddin had a dialog session with the community leaders and among them are from the Persatuan Penduduk Perumahan Awam Seri Perak, Persatuan Wanita, Ibu dan Anak-anak Kuala Lumpur (PEWANIDA) Badan Amal Warga Asnaf (BAWA) Parlimen Batu, UTC Sentul Business Association and Committee Members of Masjid Amru Ibni-Al-As.
The programme was organised by the Malaysian Information Department and is part of Jelajah Malaysia Prihatin Programme Series – leader with the people concept in the efforts to combat COVID-19.
The Info On Wheels (IOW) Malaysian Information Department via the mobile unit iM@JaPen also provides services to the customers among others the information about COVID-19 vaccination by Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Health Office and Mobile Media Centre.
On the question of lifting the Emergency status as COVID-19 cases have been on the reducing trend, Saifuddin said, 19 independent advisors have been appointed to ensure that the government is transparent on this matter and to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King).
He said, three Members of Parliament (MPs) from the opposition parties have also been appointed besides prominent figures such as the former Chief Justice of Malaysia, Inspector General of Police and Chief of Defence Forces to be in the advisory team.
“The advisors are non-partisan and the government will not intervene in their decision whether to extend or shorten the period of Emergency that is scheduled to end in August 2021. The decision will have to be consented by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” said Saifuddin.-Malaysia World News[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
